Ru Garvey
Guitarist / Songwriter / Producer
Rupert Garvey was born into music in more ways than one. He came into the world while his musician mum was ‘on the road’, played in his first youth orchestra aged 5, and has been playing in bands since he was 11. Ru has had publishing deals with Paul Rodriguez and Perfect Songs/SPZ, and has worked with the likes of Nitin Sawhney, Chromeo and Richard X (Liberty X, Sugababes). He’s already experienced commercial and critical success with his two dance tracks, 7th Wave, with Naomi Bedford and Don’t Stop, with Tank, both reaching the top ten in the UK dance charts. His music has also appeared on numerous Ministry of Sound compilations.
Moonlighting as guitarist with several underground Brighton bands, Ru has introduced many of these bands to their respective labels, working with experienced A&R, management and record labels. He is currently developing unsigned talent.
Johnny Maiden
Drummer
Johnny has always been way ahead of his time. Born in Worcester, he took up the drums at 10 and was playing professionally with local violin virtuoso, Nigel Kennedy, by the age of 13. A drummer with trip-hop collective Dub Maze at the grand old age of 14, he learned much on tour with headliners Dreadzone.
A backpacking trip to Australia when he was 17 turned into a full-blown blues odyssey after Johnny was spotted in an open-mic night in a Perth jazz club. Members of respected Aussie outfit Catfish just happened to be watching and snapped him up straight away for a ten-month tour.
Returning to England in 2001 he moved to Brighton and completed a Jazz and World music diploma at Chichester College with a distinction. Since then he has played and recorded with some top acts like Barry White, Joe Cocker, Amy Winehouse, Lemar and Dave Jordan. Last year, he completed a European tour with electro/soul band Chungking, and a full world tour with indie rockers The Wedding Present. His main influences are Jimmy Chamberlin, Stuart Copeland and Horacio Herdandez. He has recently been touring with Tricky.
Dan Karrouze
Songwriter / Executive Producer
Dan was immersed in music from the get-go. Half Lebanese, half British, he grew up in a household that positively thronged with traditional Arabic sounds. A passion for Motown and the likes of Fleetwood Mac ensured a diverse musical upbringing. Dan spent most of his teen years in recording studios writing, recording and producing with his older brother. In the early 90's he built a studio at his seafront home, in which he has produced many underground dance tracks which have been fervently received in clubs across the country. His Arabic heritage can clearly be heard on Silent Earth's new release, not least the track Stay Away Too Long. Dan is proud that Silent Earth is at the vanguard of the Brighton music scene that has produced the likes of The Kooks, British Sea Power and Fatboy Slim.
Tom Pheelan
Tom has worked all over the world on keyboards but is based in the UK. He has worked as musical director for US soul singer Viola Wills (Barry White, Joe Cocker, etc), Paul Roberts (The Stranglers) new band and Ashley Slater's Big Lounge (Freak Power) amongst others. He has played extensively on official house remixes with Sir Piers (Curious Records) and has been cowriting with him on a new album featuring artists like Level 42, Frank McComb, Kenny Thomas and Sean Escoffery.
Steve Edwards
In his younger years Steve started off working in bars and clubs in the Middle East and on American ships and worked with some amazing musicians. Since he returned to the UK he has recorded and gigged with Peter grant, Viola Wills, Jaki Grayham (Bass/MD), The Drifters, Musical Youth, Katrina and the Waves and most recently Trevor Horn and David Jordan.
